Cefaclor monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Otitis media, lower resp tract infections & URTI. UTI, skin & skin structure infections, gonococcal urethritis. Sinusitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Distaclor Adult 250 mg 8 hrly. Severe infections or those caused by less susceptible organisms Double the dose. Max daily dose: 4 g. Childn 20 mg/kg daily in divided doses 8 hrly. More serious infections: 40 mg/kg daily, max: 1 g daily. Otitis media & pharyngitis Doses may be given bid. Distaclor MR tab Pharyngitis, tonsillitis, skin & skin structure infection 375 mg bid. Lower UTI 375 mg bid. Bronchitis 375 mg bid. Sinusitis, pneumonia 750 mg bid. Infection by S. pyogenes Duration ≥10 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-sensitive patients. Superinfection. History of GI disease. Renal impairment. Pregnancy, lactation.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid. Oral anticoagulants.
